‘Ulalena is the Hawaiian word meaning the wind that rises at sunset. It is also the title of the 75 minute show created by Réalisations.net and inspired by the local rhythms, mythologies and stories. More than twenty actors/acrobats and five musicians tell the story of Maui/Hawaii from the mythic creation of the islands and then through the eyes of those who have visited them: the Polynesians, the Europeans, the immigrants who came to work and the tourists of today. |
A year of research with Hawaiian elders and museologists ensured that the production authentically represents the cultural fabric of the Islands.
The format breaks away from the traditional tourist fare of luaus and Polynesian revues and touches the audience through the universal story of migration, bonding with nature and human drama.
